The weather remains gorgeous, bright sun, brilliant blue sky, temps in the 60's and low humidity. Our host at Le Barcarrole, says it is much like this all year. (a lot like San Francisco). We're enjoying our Peugeot 308; big enough to be comfortable but still fits in the little streets of these old towns we like to visit.
Had a very nice full breakfast at our B&B. Drove north to Carentac, the next town to pick up picnic supplies then continued north to St Pol de Leon. Visited both cathedrals there and wandered the historic center. Most of the buildings are substantial grey granite structures with occasional pink granite accents.
Continued on to the seaside town of Roskoff. VERY CROWDED on this beautiful Sunday in August!! Drove through much of the town and never found a parking place. Discovered you have to park outside of town and take a shuttle bus in. We decided to picnic and leave instead!
Last stop of the day was to St Thegonnec to see it's very unusual church complex. There is a "calvary" in the church yard created in 1615. It's a crucifix way up top, the two crucified thieves a level lower, then a parade of people, telling the Palm Sunday and Easter story to the illiterate.
Decided we should see the actual village center of Loquenoc on the way home to the B&B. It's a very pretty little place and the church, though quite small, was a real surprise. It contains significant remnants from the medieval church built in ~850 AD, incorporated nicely into it's developing structure over the subsequent centuries. (see 4 ancient carvings from tops of columns)
Went back to Carantec for dinner on the harbor. No seats available indoors, so we had to sit outside; not so great. It was cold and everyone was smoking. Seems there are way too many smokers in France no matter where you go.
Walked - 4.0 miles
Drove- 116 km
