Retirement Odyssey
Lots of fun on a road trip out of Clermont today. Some highway driving, but plenty of country roads with acres and acres of sunflowers nearing their harvest time.
The 3 places we chose were all hill towns, fortified walled hamlets. Started in tiny St Floret. Very picturesque, but the TI and Marie where you were to go to gain access to the important sites were all closed. Didn't get to see the beautiful XII century frescoes.
Next stop was Issoire to see the XII-XIII century church where they have painted the interior to look as they suspect it did when first completed. First time we've seen this .... very striking!!
Finished up in Montpeyroux, the most similar to the hill towns of Tuscany we saw a few years ago. Got to climb the tower for a wonderful view of the town and countryside.

Drove - 70 km
