Retirement Odyssey

Sunny weather, comfortably cooler continues, now joined by 15-20 mph winds which we are calling the "mini-Mistral." Wore our jackets for the first time since Brittany this morning.

First stop today was Isle-Sur-le-Sorgue, referred to as the Venice of Provence because of the numerous canals that were created off the Sorgue river to power 28 mill wheels a few centuries ago. There are still a few operating, but just for looks, not to perform any useful work. This town is also the antiques mecca of Provence with numerous shops selling "antiquites" and "brocante".

After lunch in Isle-sur-le-Sorgue, we drove to Avignon/ Villeneuve d'Avignon. Finally made it to our B&B in Villeneuve d'Avignon, Les Jardin de la Livree. It's very nice with a big room and french doors that open onto the garden. They also have a very nice pool.

There is a small restaurant at the B&B that appears to be well frequented by locals. We were able to get a reservation because we are staying here, but we saw many walk ins turned away as we ate our meal; excellent food at fair prices.

Villeneuve is much more manageable than Avignon AND has some good sites to visit tomorrow. We were very happy to discover a "lavanderie" just a few doors down from the gate to our B&B. There's also a small grocery store, a boulanger, 2 banks, the post office and a pretty town square, lined with Plane trees, all just a block from the B&B. Looking forward to some rest time over the next 3 days as we don't plan to use the car until we leave here AND we'll make good use of the pool!
