Retirement Odyssey

The day started out cloudy with light rain as expected, so we headed off to the laundromat, picking up some breakfast on the way.

After returning to the hotel with our clean clothes, we found the weather improving, so we went out for a walk to see the few remaining things in the medieval town that we hadn't yet viewed.

Hoped to have a picnic lunch in the English Gardens behind the nearby St Saveur church, BUT very strong winds had developed, again as predicted, so we had to settle for an indoor picnic in our room.

After eating , we decided it was time to be brave and go out in the car to see the Vieux Port of Dinan which is on the Rance River, well below the ramparts of the medieval city. Our well laid driving plans went very well!! Down to the old port and back w/o complications.

Took a walk along the Rance River to Lehon (30 minutes on foot each way) to see their lovely abbey. There also happened to be three women doing a trapeze act with live music in the abbey grounds. AMAZING number of townspeople and little kids were in attendance!

Had dinner in the Vieux Port at L'Atelier des Gourmands. It was adequate though not memorable. (The cidre WAS quite good however!)

Saw an interesting trio of musicians in the square outside the hotel this evening. They played what I will call skeletal stringed instruments, that had no sound boxes because they were amplified through tin horns like an old fashioned gramophone.

Walked - 8.2 miles

Drove - 4 km
