Tuesday is market day in Vaison. The biggest market in all Provence! It takes over most of the streets in the Ancient Town center. People, tourists an locals, come from numerous surrounding towns to shop here.
After breakfast, we cruised the market to pick up picnic supplies then headed off for our Cote de Rhone loop drive through the towns of: Crestet, Malaucene, Suzette, La Fare, Beaumes-de-Venise, Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Sable and Seguret. Most are tiny hill towns. There are vineyards everywhere and vinters/tasting rooms around every corner.
The route included a drive over the Col de Chaine mountain pass (492 meters = 1500 feet) with a great view of the Dentilles de Montmirail in one direction and Mont Ventoux in the other. Though it was again hot and sunny, there was a nice cooling breeze. Lots of bikers were traversing the pass as well.
Back to the pool this afternoon and got a few pictures of some boule matches in progress.
Had lamb for dinner tonight at La Lyriste where the chef/owner Franck came out to ask us how we were enjoying the meal. Strolled the quiet town after dinner. No signs of the crowds and vendors which had made the streets unrecognizable this morning!
Walked - 6.2 miles
Drove - 55 km
