Retirement Odyssey

Cold, cloudy and windy this morning. Our B&B hosts said that it was the first time they had to serve breakfast indoors since Spring.

We drove the short distance to St Paul de Vence. Took almost as long to enter and exit the parking garage (10 levels all underground) as it did to drive there!! The views of the hilltop town from below were nice. The views from the town were no great shakes. This is the most visited village in France and even on a mid-September day, it was crowded w/tourists. Nothing much to see except numerous art galleries and restaurants, cafes.

We continued north 10 km to Vence, larger, far fewer tourists and much more satisfying. Our hotel is on the north edge of the old town, everything in easy walking distance. There is a nice pool here, but unless there's a major change in the weather, we won''t get to use it.

Did the historic walking tour as mapped by the TI. Didn't get a chance to avail ourselves of the boule lessons they offer...... so far. Dinner at La Regence; lucky to get a seat as there was a German (?) tour group taking up most of the indoor seating and it was too cold (and smokey) to sit outside.
