Ominous clouds on the horizon as we left for a day trip to Quimper this morning. Got there early enough that it was easy to find parking.... hurray!! Made it from parking to the cathedral then it started to pour!!
Fortunately, just around the corner from the cathedral is the Museum of Breton History that covers Bretagne from pre-history, through Roman times and right up to the present day AND with a senior discount (first time we got to play that card during this trip) we got in for 3 euros each!! Very well done. (see photo of Breton mother and daughter in traditional wear from 1860)
By the time we left the museum it was sunny, warm and humid. This sequence of dark and stormy then bright and sunny continued all day, even into this evening when we were out for dinner.
The Cathedral of St Corentin is unusual in that the nave is curved as it runs from narthex to apse, something we can't ever recall seeing before! No mention of this feature in the English information sheet.
We also paid a visit to St Mathieu's cathedral (see photo as viewed down a city street in the old part of town.) Made our final stop at the covered market ("Les Halles" as it is called in every town large enough to have one.) We often see 'Aile de Raie' on the menu and found out just what it is today... the wing of the skate/ray. (see photo of fish merchant preparing one)
Walked - 3.6 miles
Drove- 36 km
