Retirement Odyssey

Nice (expensive) breakfast here at Le Gabetiere in Estrablin, then headed to Vienne, just 12km away. Actually had some clouds and a sprinkle of rain this AM before it got hot and steamy. The Lyon area, including Vienne, was the hottest in all of France today, 34 C!

Picked up a wonderful audio guide at the TI, even better as it was free!
Walked us through all the ancient Roman sites in town with very well detailed discussions. There was also a fine 3D video representation of what the town was like in Roman times at the TI and another, different one, at the Museum of Beaux-Artes. They included a huge theater (11,000 capacity) and 2 smaller theaters in a cluster above town, a beautiful temple near the site of the forum, a VI century church, now a museum of Roman statues and mosaics, a medieval cloister and more!! Only the afternoon heat kept us from a full exploration. There's a Roman road in the Jardin Publique you're free to walk on with a 1st century BC milepost next to it.

Used the pool again today. What a nice escape from the heat! Too tired to go back into town, so we had a lovely pizza delivered here and enjoyed it on the terrace with a bottle of wine.

I bought some noix de coco tea (not Marriage Freres unfortunately) and Tina got her requisite kitchen towel.

Walked - 5.6 miles

Drove - 22 km
