This was the day to finally make our way across the river to Avignon. Sunny all day, cool in the AM, hot by noon. Had to eliminate plans for a city walk so we could get back to the B&B and it's pool! Sorry about that Rick Steves.
Took bus #5 from our TI to the stop near the Papal palace. The Rhone looked nice and there were a couple river cruise boats moored in the city (left bank); not Viking however.
The Papal Palace tour was fairly good, aided immensely by the audio guide. We found the place rather austere and random however. For only the second time on this trip, we qualified for a discount ticket based on our age. :-)
Had a quick lunch near the merry go round, ubiquitous in all French villages, towns and cities that we have visited thus far. This one was near the Hotel de Ville, not the church/cathedral as in most cases. Then on to the famous Pont d'Avignon. It was a hot and fleeting experience. Too bad the 3D movie about it wasn't working.
The restaurant at our B&B is closed Monday and Tuesday. We asked our host for a recommendation and he intimated that in his opinion, there were no other spots in Villeneuve that could be trusted for good food. Perhaps we'll find a pizza or pasta place? Can't go too wrong with that usually.
Walked - 3.5 miles
Drove - zero km
