Retirement Odyssey

Experienced our usual tough moments getting out of Arles and into Nimes. We've come to expect these and maybe someday will accept them as well. Made an intermediate stop at Pont du Gard. This is a huge Roman bridge, built in ~120 AD, that carried the 50 km aqueduct that ran from Uzes to Nimes over the Gard river. We felt it was over rated and a bit "disneyfied. Interesting museum, but poorly lit.

Arrived in Nimes and decided it was easier/safer to park in a public garage rather than try to get into the garage of our B&B (Their street is very narrow with turns difficult to manage even though it's one way) Got a great spot at the garage!!

Philipe and his husband's pug Huguette met us a the B&B. Philipe used to produce fabric for all the high fashion men's designers in Paris before he retired three years ago. He's quite a talker; we discussed Macron and Trump among other things, all in French.

Took time to visit the Maison Carre, the Roman temple, built in 2-5 AD, that was part of the forum complex. It's the most complete Roman temple in Europe, and the only one the public can enter. The visit included a good video explaining how the Southern Gauls helped Cesar's legions defeat the northern Gauls (led by Verginatorix), thereby gaining all the benefits of Roman citizenship.

VERY busy restaurant and bar/bistro scene here in Nimes on this Friday night. We had a nice dinner and secured reservations for the next two nights at restaurants very near our hotel.

Walked - 6.5 miles

Drove- 93 km
