Retirement Odyssey

Our flight from Portland to Amsterdam took only 9.5 hours and the seats we had were fairly comfortable. We had plenty of time to make our connecting flight to Paris.

The weather was beautiful on our first day in Senlis, bright sun, blue sky, 70 degrees (see photos). Our B&B, Chambres d'Hote de Parseval is a lovely old 17th century manor house with 2 friendly dogs. We're staying on the third floor, under the eaves, windows opening onto the garden below with the village beyond. Our hosts have gone for the weekend, leaving us in the able hands of their daughter Amandine who is 20 years old, a biology student in Paris. She prepared a nice breakfast for us and our table mates, a family of 4 (2 teens) from Hamburg, on their way to a gite in La Rochelle, half way down the Atlantic coast.

The weather isn't nearly as good today, clouds, occasional rain, mid 60's. That didn't stop us from making a self guided tour mapped out by the TI. Lots of very old houses, including mansions of the 16-18th centuries. The king had a royal residence here so those with money would tag along and build their own mansions.

Driving has been going well so far as we get accustomed to our GPS. The car is a Peugeot 308 and seems to be a good choice for our needs.
We took a short drive to Chantilly today passing, but not visiting, the chateau and its remarkable water gardens!

Walked:
2.6 miles 7/20
2.9 miles 7/21
5.5 miles 7/22

Drove:
60 km 7/21-22
