Retirement Odyssey

We decided it was finally time to take a driving excursion from one of our base cities, in this case Dinan. Using the Michelin atlas, rather than the GPS, we had a very successful and enjoyable trip! Though the weather was supposed to be cloudy, we had quite a lot of sun.

We started out a Sables-d'Or -les -Pins, a fairly upscale beach town. Walked around looking at fancy vacation homes, overlooking the beach which was VERY WIDE at low tide!!

From there, we moved east to Cap Frehel. A lighthouse in operation since the early 1700's. It's more modern replacemen t was blown up by the Nazis in 1943. The view of the soaring cliffs nearby was awesome, much like the cliffs of Moher in Ireland. There was a steady 30 mile an hour wind by the lighthouse with gusts I suspect exceeded 50mph! (see photo of Tina)

Today's last stop was the well preserved Fort la Latte, a medieval castle from the 14th and 15th century with a few 17th century improvements. The current owners are living in part of the original guardhouse. Great view from the top of the castle keep, including the Cap Frehel lighthouse in the distance.

Home for some "comfort food." Tina chose American (a cheeseburger) and I chose Breton (moules and fries and a 'bole' of cidre)

Tomorrow, we'll take the scenic drive to St Malo and spend the day

Walked - 6.6 miles

Drove - 111km
