We made the short, easy drive from Honfleur to Bayeux in just over and hour. Our B&B (La Villa) is nice, but parking is difficult here.
No problem getting into the Bayeux tapestry museum, despite warnings to the contrary. The tapestry is an amazing piece of art history, some say the world's first cartoon! Though called a "tapestry", it is truly an enormous work of embroidery, 70 meters long and about 18" high. For the majority of the populace who were illiterate, it was a pictorial representation of William the Conquerer's voyage to England with 7000 men and 2000 horses in over 100 Viking style boats, where he defeated King Harold at the battle of Hastings in 1066. During the early centuries after it's creation, it was displayed in the cathedral for 2 weeks each year.
The Bayeux Cathedral is awe inspiring. It's as big as Notre Dame in Paris. (see photos)
We stopped at the TI and picked up the map for a self guided walking tour. We scouted out places for dinner as we walked and made a reservation. Lucky we did as they were packed at 7:00 PM! Nice meal.... lamb chops for me and pork tenderloin for Tina
Walked- 4.6 miles
Drove- 96 km
