Retirement Odyssey
It rained overnight in Angers and the sky still looked threatening as we left for Bourges. The drive went well, our longest to date.
Our hotel is in a very old building, but the room is very modern and just a few blocks from the cathedral.
As there is rain predicted tomorrow, we did a quick tour of the old part of the city (Roman through medieval) seeing as much of the outdoor sites as we could, grabbing a few photos in the sun.
The Cathedral of St Etienne is MASSIVE !! Modeled after and almost as big as Notre Dame in Paris. It was begun in 1195 and completed in just 55 years (astoundingly fast for a project this size at that time). There are numerous beautiful stained glass windows created in 1215 and some later additions from the early 15th century.
Good dinner at "Chez Nous". I had the cuisse de lapin.
