Semester in Europe!

So this morning Justine and I woke up very early because before we went to the Vatican we had to drop off our stuff for Belgium at Taylor's apartment. So by the time we arrived at the Vatican we had already been walking for an hour and a half!! But anyway, the Vatican was absolutely beautiful. When you enter the walls of the Vatican you technically are no longer in Italy because the Vatican is its own country. They have their own guards and the police who work there are French. The Vatican is so large that if you were to spend a minute in front of every work of art in it, you would be there for 14 days and nights straight!! It's incredible. The only thing I can compare it to was the Palace of Versailles. The Vatican was more painting decorations whereas the Palace of Versailles is decorated in more gold and jewels. The rooms of the apartments of the previous popes are so elaborate and detailed with the paintings all over every single wall. We spent probably three or four hours in there with our teacher. Fun fact: when one of the popes came into power he did not like that all the statues were naked so he hired an artist to remove all the private parts or cover them with fig leaves! The Vatican property was beautiful though. Lots of palm trees everywhere! And the pope has his own helicopter pad!! The last thing that we saw was the Sistine Chapel! It was so amazing but a lot different that I had been picturing it. The murals were amazing but for some reason I pictured them more dimensional than they were. The ceiling was flat! Also, it is absolutely prohibited to take pictures in there... The guards will make you erase everything on your phone if they catch you. Key word "if" hehe I did take a selfie of the ceiling!! (Mom and Mimi would be proud) Once we were finished we went out to the entrance where the pope makes his appearances on Wednesdays at 10:30am! It was so pretty!!! Then we went to this chain pizza place called Alice that we all love then got Gelato at a place called Old Town! Both were amazinggggg!!! Then we went and regrouped at Taylor's before heading to the airport to head to Brussels! Once in Brussels we got a can to drop us off just in the city center and it was not too difficult to find our hostel and get in the room! The hostel was very nice! We had a lounge and kitchen and then our room had six bunks in it! There was one woman there with us but she was there for business we assumed so she was not there much. Once we set down our stuff we set out for a snack! We found a waffle place a minute from our hostel where we had waffles that 100% changed my life. They were incredible!!! We then went to bed because it was late at that point!
