Semester in Europe!

We woke up once again praying that it was not raining because today they had planned for us to climb Mount Vesuvius! They put all of us on the bus again and we started up the volcano, thankfully we did not actually have to hike up it!! The bus ride up was so scary though because the roads were so narrow and winding and the bus was so big! And we were going to high up! They drove us 1000 meters up to the place where the bus was allowed to park. Unfortunately, it was too windy so the climb to the top was closed, but we hung there for a little bit to take pictures because it was as high up as we could go! It was so cold!!! It was in the thirties because we were so high up! It was breathtaking though. I have figured out that I am a sucker for a good view and this one was incredible. There was volcanic ash everywhere and there were still dried lava remains from the last eruption in 1944. We learned about how the volcano still has the possibility of eruption so they monitor it very carefully. They are able to tell three days before it is going to erupt through pressures. That way they can evacuate the town before it happens. After making our way back down the volcano on the bus, we headed into the town of Naples. We went to an archeological museum to see more artifacts from Pompeii which were so fascinating. We then went to the most famous pizzeria in Naples where we had the biggest personal pizzas that I had ever seen. They were delicious as always... then we boarded the bus to head back to Rome!
