So we woke up praying that it was not raining outside so that we could make the boat ride to Capri for the day! It was cold and dreary but thankfully not a rain cloud was in site so we set off for the marina in Naples! All 50 of us boarded a boat taxi that took us over to the island for the day! The ride put all of us to sleep it was so soothing -- I missed being on the water. None of us were able to take in all the beauty that the island held. As soon as we stepped off the boat we were all taken back by the peacefulness of Capri. There are mountains and cliffs everywhere with adorable houses all over them. Then there is a beach and the cutest boats one will ever see. It was honestly like we stepped into a post card or into what my version of Heaven looks like. Our guides suggested that we take the cable car up the cliff to the more centrally located town of Capri. So, we bought little tickets for the cable car and stood in amazement as it lifted us up the cliff over the beautiful town. It was like a movie it was so magical! Once we got up to the town we realized that because it is the off season right now, most stores and restaurants are closed. But we still walked around and took the most beautiful pictures and took in how adorable the town was. We then found a little bus that took us farther up cliffs and to the other side of the island to Anacapri. This town had more that was open and more to do. When we got off the bus we walked around a little bit before heading into a restaurant for lunch. They had homemade ravioli that was absolutely incredible! The owner was so nice, everyone on the island was very nice! Because they live on the water of course. We then went into a few stores before going exploring to look for an old villa that is famous on the island! We finally found it but realized you had to pay money to get inside so instead we explored a little more! We found the most incredible lookout point over the entire island and ocean. Basically I found my happy place. While my friends were taking pictures I wondered down a little pathway that was off the place we had stopped to look out. I realized that the path led all the way down the mountain and across the whole island down to the marina where we had to meet the group in two hours. Quietly I showed Justine what I had discovered and we decided to talk our friends into hiking down it. They agreed before they knew what they were getting themselves into. An hour later, and in desperate need of new legs, we were back in the harbor area. We walked down millions of stairs and went on winding paths but it was so worth it. Our legs were quivering when we stood still but I will cherish that walk forever. It was so incredibly breathtaking walking down the mountain on ancient stairs, crying and laughing with those girls. The views were incredible. We passed so many lemon trees on the way down and one of them was just beyond a little stone wall. So of course I had to climb the wall to pick lemons... So I did and with my friends at the bottom of the wall to catch me if I fell, I picked everyone lemons from that tree just beyond the wall. So then we had a little keepsake of our off the beaten pathway home haha. When we made it back to the marina we went in the little stores there and to my great delight, there was boating stuff everywhere. Beach bags, boat hats, etc...all over the place!! I got a sweatshirt and will most likely be wearing it every day until I come home. We then went and befriended the people working in a little coffee shop so that we could stay in there because by this time it had started to rain. We got a little snack and talked with the workers! It was then time to go back to the main land so we boarded that huge boat again and headed back. When we got back we all took a minute to charge our phones and regroup then my friends and I set out to Sorento for dinner. Sorento is another beach town and it was only a twenty minute train ride from the town outside of Naples that we were staying in. There we went to a restaurant that our teachers suggested to us and it was so good! It was so authentic and the waiters barely spoke english -- which is always a good sign. Sarah and I split seafood risotto and each got a side of grilled veggies and it was AMAZING! With all of that food, and us all getting wine, my portion of the mean was still under ten euros... which is so impressive. Needless to say we were very full and happy leaving that town. However, when we tried to leave we realized that the train stopped running at 9:30 instead of 10:30 like it usually does... so we had to find a bus to take us back! Thankfully we ran into a group of boys on our trip so they went around asking locals about the bus schedule and thankfully figured out there was a bus that would be coming relatively soon. So we wondered around killing time before finally getting on the bus to go back to our town! I was so thankful for them! When we got off the bus it was around midnight and so of course we got gelato as a midnight snack before heading back to the hotel! We all quickly climbed into bed after our incredible day!
