Semester in Europe!

So today we woke up and had breakfast in our adorable little kitchen! After we all got ready we walked to school to meet up with the group. On the way, Justine and I stopped and got coffee! As we were walking to school we ran into a family from America that asked us for directions! We told them unfortunately we didn't even know where we were going but that they could follow us anyway! As we were walking we came to a large staircase and once we descended it we were blown away at what we saw. There was a large square full of old ruins and once we walked past that, we came to a huge building that we later found out was a very important building in the center of Rome that has flames burning all the time in honor of the eternal city. I will find out what it was called and update y'all... anyway, once we got to school we went to a lounge restaurant where we had a huge information session and then lunch! The lunch was once again a three course meal!! These people can eat! After lunch, we went on a "practical tour of Rome" where they showed us basically all around the areas of school. Different restaurants, train stations, bus stations, stores, etc. It was so helpful and also helped all of us to get our bearings. After that tour we all tried to go get new SIM cards but that was a mess and a half so most of us just gave up! We then went to a cafe for a snack before all heading back to our own apartments! On the way home, Justine and I decided to take a detour through the streets around the coliseum... and we cried. It was absolutely breathtaking to finally see in person all the ruins and history and monuments that I have been learning about since middle school. It was better than any pictures and it honestly feels like I am in a dream about to wake up at any second. Walking through the streets and coming upon an area that I have only fantasized about in classes at home is the most incredible experience I could dream of having. Walking the same streets that are so old gladiators walked on them is hard to even fathom. There is so much history in this city and it is overwhelming to try to take it all in at once. Once we finally stopped simply walking around with our mouths wide open in amazement, we made it home and went to the grocery store to buy pasta to make for dinner! We got gnocchi which is surprisingly very difficult to cook at home... or at least the kind we bought did not compare to the ones in the restaurants so far. Maybe we aren't as Italian as we think we are. We then spent the evening entering in all the field trips that they have planned for us and trying to remember as much Roman history as we could in preparation for our culture and art tour tomorrow!
