Europe

We’re being nice in Nice.
We wake to sunshine, I google a coffee shop & find one on our Rue & head out for a coffee, again the coffee is really nice, they roast their own beans but the milk is UHT. The coffee is ok, I think even the “best” coffee shops in France aren’t going to match, South Africa, Portugal or Spain.
After coffee & booking the train to Lyon we head out for a wander through the old city. It was so lovely wondering through the lanes & window shopping, we found a number of food shops & also the flower market, which has a fruit & veg section, we were pleased to see the sea through some arches, after walking through the market we head across to the promenade. It was lovely walking along the sea front, it’s a pebble beach & the tide doesn’t seem to change too much. I needed the toilet so we crossed the road into Jardin Albert & passed a few garden displays, such a pity the swing was so high in the display with the sticks. We then crossed back to the promenade & found a seat & sat for about 10 mins enjoying the view. We walked slightly further along but decided to turn back as the buildings were becoming newer. We found the tourist information & I asked if we could catch a train or bus to see a lavender field, they said it was too early, which I knew, but we’d seen it in bud in Barcelona. We continued along the promenade back to the market (past potted lavender, with flowers!!!) & purchased some potatoes & tomatoes for dinner. We wondered back & purchased a quiche for lunch, we’d seen a tripiare just near our apartment but it was closed when we headed home.

We had lunch & Richard headed out to buy some liver for dinner, we then went out for a walk, we wanted to head up the hill behind our apartment but due to road works ended up walking all the way to the port on the other side before we found an open road going up. The views of the port were lovely, we saw a huge yacht with its own heli pad. Their were the ruins of a church & also a cemetery, we located the waterfall we’d seen that morning, although it didn’t seem to have as much water cascading this afternoon, the views were lovely, across Nice, we saw clouds building again on the hills behind & had noticed this yesterday. We also watched planes taking off from the airport, it’s run way runs parallel to the sea. We found our way down & ended up near the flower market, we walked home a few streets nearer the hill, lots of lovely shops & then did a loop around our apartment before returning home. I had a WhatsApp call with Mum, my sister also rang Mum so we were all able to chat, Mum is in the process of selling her house & has had an offer, fingers crossed. I put on some washing which has taken about three hours, I think, to wash. The liver was delicious & we have some left for another dinner. The apartment has one of the automatic no hands opening bins & everytime we walk past it opens ... has been making me laugh & remember we had a similar bin which was fine until we had a Toby dog as of course he learnt very quick to open the bin!!!!
