Europe

After breakfast I headed off to the Alsatian museum whilst Richard listened to the football. The museum was good with exhibits covering all aspects of daily life in pre & early industrial Alsace, the museum opened in 1902 in order to preserve the regions identity & against attempts at Germanisation. It’s housed in three renaissance houses on the banks of the river Ill.
We then headed out to walk to Germany, the weather was again not so good & we did stop under a large tree when there was an especially heavy downpour. We passed a tank on Porte du Rhin, with a plaque, 23 November 1944, the date the 2nd French armoured division liberated Strasbourg. We walked across a pedestrian & tram bridge passing into Germany 1/2 way across as the border is in the middle of the Rhine river. Kehl is the town just across the border & we found a cafe & had some lunch. It was again threatening rain so we came back across on the tram. I did remember some German so have spoken three different languages today.
