Europe

We turned the water off & headed out after breakfast. It was cool about 7c but at least there was no rain. We walked to the Japanese garden, passing Basillique St Serin on the way. The garden was lovely, the cherry blossoms were in bloom & we had a nice walk around. We walked back along the canal du Midi, we only passed one lock & walked a long way before we actually saw any boats on the canal, we passed the Maison de Violette, which was closed but we assume would be open during the summer months. Violets are to Toulouse what lavender is to Provence, wrong time of the year for us to see them, they are thought to have been introduced by soldiers returning from the Napoleonic wars. We saw a lovely busy Sunday market at Place Saint- Aubin, selling clothes, second hand books, fish, bread & of course sausages & cheese. We saw nobody actually using the canal but eventually came to port St Sauveur where lots were moored. We stopped to take photos of Musée G.Labit, a beautiful house, that’s now a museum for the collection brought back by Monsieur Labit from places such as Egypt, Japan, China, India, Pakistan & Thailand among other places. We headed back to our apartment past another market which was just packing up along Allée Jules Guesde & also discovered Toulouse has trams. We arrived home about 2pm & had left over curry & some bread. After a rest we headed back out to visit the Capitole, the art work was amazing, the great staircase, salle des illustres, salle Henri-Martin & glorious deeds of Toulouse people. A building that’s beautiful inside & out. We then headed to a supermarket about 30 mins walk away, we need to be more organised next Sunday!!
Quite a lot of shops, including some of the supermarkets were only open until 1pm, we didn’t check times until it was too late!! The sun was out this afternoon so a pleasant walk, partly along canal de Brienne.
