We hiked the Horseshoe Lake Trail today. This is about a 4 mile trail with some ascents and descents but the crowing jewel was the beautiful lake. Shortly after starting the hike we met a woman from one of the cruise ships. She had just arrived and was a little nervous about hiking on her own, so we invited her to join us. About ½ mile into the hike we came across the first of several groups of hikers. We were told that there was a female moose sitting along the edge of the lake and sure enough as we came around a turn, there was the moose. At first she didn’t pay any attention to us. She was just enjoying the day. Then a couple of birds starting dive bombing her which finally annoyed her. After a few minutes she started walking across the stream to the side where the hikers were. No one stayed around to see what she was going to do! Not sure if she thought we were responsible for the birds. We did have about 10 minutes or so to watch her and get lots of pictures. Following along the trail we rounded the pristine lake and saw a beaver dam and several groups of ducks. It was a very lovely hike and we thoroughly enjoyed the walk.
