2017 Alaska adventure - Whitehorse, Yukon to Tok, Alaska

Tok, Alaska, 08.04.2017

Finally we got to Alaska today! It was a very long drive between Whitehorse and Tok and the roads were horrible. Probably 65% of the roads were gravel, dirt and gravel, or frost heaves. Once we got crossed into Alaska we still had frost heaves, but must less gravel roads. By the time we pulled into Tok, everything inside and outside the trailer had either a fine layer of dust or mud. Upon arriving at the campground we proceeded immediately to the rv wash. But we did complete the Alaska Highway.

We did see a bear and a moose but was only fast enough to get pictures of the bear.

The mountains were spectacular once again as we caught our first glimpses of Alaska. We noticed a lot of damage to spruce trees due to a beetle blight.

Once again we bought gas at a remote station with above ground tanks. In fact we initially passed the station because we didn’t realize it sold gas.

The checkin at customs was minimal again. We were only asked

where we were going in Alaska and then we proceeded through customs. There was a long line going into Canada from Alaska so we will see how it is when we start our return trip.
No sightseeing in Tok. In fact there isn’t much to see in Tok. We were exhausted from the trip and after dinner we rested.
