2017 Alaska adventure - Talkeetna, Alaska to Denali, Alaska

We left Talkeetna for Denali under very overcast skies. Although we enjoyed Talkeetna we are looking forward to new adventures in Denali. We are staying at a campground about 30 miles outside Denali in a town named Cantwell. Shortly after arriving we piled into a single vehicle to head to Denali to make reservations for the shuttle bus which will take us around 96 miles from the visitor’s center to the end of the road. We opted for the shuttle bus since we will be able to get off the bus anywhere along the route to hike and then pick up another bus to continue the trip.

Along the way to Denali we came across a group of 5 moose munching grasses along the side of the road. This was before we had entered the park. After purchasing our tickets we decided to drive along the park road about 15 miles which is the limit of where personal vehicles can drive. Unfortunately no wildlife was spotted.
