2017 Alaska adventure - Glacier Park Montana part 2

Glacier National Park, 07.25.2017

Tuesday, 7/25 – We have returned to our Alaskan Adventure. We leave tomorrow for Canada so we today we decided to go on one long hike through the north east section of Glacier National Park. We took the Going to the Sun Road through Glacier to get to Many Glaciers. We drove this road with our friends last week but that was in a Toyota Corolla. In our Big Red Truck (Ford F250) there was minimal distance between us and oncoming traffic on some of the narrow turns. But we made it through unscathed. We took the Iceberg Lake Trail hike, which is a 10 mile round trip hike to a beautiful glacier lake that, due to the elevation and being in the shade of the mountains, has icebergs floating on it year round. It was a strenuous hike up 1190 ft to the lake. The good thing about that is the return was all downhill. We enjoyed eating our lunch while taking in the scenery of beautiful water, icebergs, and looking at the 3,000 vertical walls of stone surrounding 3 sides of the lake. At the beginning of the hike we saw a grizzly bear eating his lunch of berries from bushes along the side of the trail. There were several of us together and we did not approach him. He took no notice of us and was content to continue with his meal. We also saw spruce grouse and on the return through the park we saw long horned sheep. All in all it was a good day for seeing wildlife as well as nature. We highly recommend this hike if you are ever in Glacier National Park. Tomorrow we head to Canada and Banff National Park.
