Calgary to San Francisco

We started the day by watching the Stampede parade. As it came along the street near to where we are staying we were able to watch from the balcony. It lasted for about one and a half hours with bands, lots of horses, dancers, displays by firms, societies, charities, emergency services and the armed forces and also various communities. There were a lot of Mounties which was nice to see as last time we came to Canada we only saw one in dress uniform.
We then went on the tram to the Stampede Ground. It was quite busy and very hot so we made our way to the indoor venues. In the Nutrien centre Kian did the wheat trail and cattle trail, we went to watch the Big Horse display and walked round looking at the farm animals. We walked through the fairground where there were lots of game booths which tempted Kian but they were $5 a go and most of the prizes were big soft toys - much too big to transport on an aeroplane!
Chris, Kian and I then went to the evening show while Lindsey went back with Lewis. The first part was chuck wagon racing in which 4 wagon drivers raced against each other. There were 9 heats and the winners go through to the final heats later in the week. There is big prize money up for grabs so lots of shouting and cheering going on.
The second part was a spectacular entertainment show featuring the Young Canadians - young dancers and singers - alongside a comedian, magician, singer, roller skaters and an appearance by Eddie the Eagle who ski jumped onto the stage suspended from a harness. It ended with a fantastic firework display.
We arrived back to the condo very late and very tired.
