Calgary to San Francisco

I spent a bit of time at the hotel this morning sorting things out before I caught the BART into the centre of San Francisco and made my way to my Airbnb apartment. I have a room here in the penthouse but facilities are shared. I briefly met another guest but so far no one else is around. The apartment is beautiful, an open plan living space with wood floors, kitchen, balcony overlooking the bay and numerous closed doors, presumably other bedrooms. There is a kettle so I had the luxury of making a proper cup of tea, the hotels only have coffee machines. Luckily the property is near the bottom of one of the many steep hills here so I walked down to Fisherman’s Wharf which was packed with tourists queuing at the food booths and tour ticket offices and lots of cars and coaches. It was a bit like being at one of the tackier seaside resorts in England! I went to the waterside and looked out over the water to Alcatraz, stood outside McDonalds and Starbucks trying to get a WiFi signal in case Rachel was trying to get in touch and in the end went to their hotel to wait for them to arrive. It was lovely to see them and the girls had lots to tell me about their long journey and their birthday parties. We went out for something to eat, I left them at their hotel to catch up on some sleep and came back to my apartment for another nice cup of tea.
