Another early start today with a train journey from Seattle to Portland. It was a nice journey taking about three hours. There was some nice scenery with lots of rivers and wooded areas. I saw three deer leaping over the fence near the track. It is a busy route as we saw numerous freight trains coming the other way. They are so long that you miss parts of the scenery. The train also sounds it’s horn at every railway crossing. As there are lots of unmanned crossings this makes for a noisy journey. I picked up a car in Portland and drove along the top end of Oregon to Enterprise. The journey goes through the Columbia River Gorge to start off with. This is a beautiful route, first through forests and then through the rocks, with many viewpoints but I didn’t stop as I had a long journey. I am hoping that I will have time at the end to visit it. I had a fantastic view of Mount Hood, another of the glaciated volcanoes in the Cascade Range as I drove along. Unfortunately there was nowhere to stop and take a photo. The road follows the river for many miles with Washington on one side and Oregon on the other. There are miles and miles of grassland until I drove round the hairpin bends over the mountains into Enterprise.
