The Smith's USA Trip

We decided to put in a long drive today to make our way up into Montana and visit the Little Bighorn Battlefield. (I could not for the life of me get the boys to understand it was not a field with lots of Bighorn sheep!)
We drove from Wapiti through Cody and stopped to visit the Old Trails Town where they have relocated a lot of old original cabins from around the surrounding areas along with artifacts and wagons from early settling times. They have actually also relocated several bodies of famous settlers to here as well, including John Jeremiah Johnson (think I got that right).
A number of the cabins were actually associated with the Sundance Kid and the Hole in the Wall Gang which was kind of cool. Even the old Saloon they had there had original bullet holes in the door (so the sign said).
Kind of a cool place that gave the boys an idea of what life was like way back when.
We then drove through Cody and passed the Buffalo Bill Centre. I'm really disappointed we didn't have time to stop and check it out. It was enormous and I had heard people

say it's a fantastic museum.
Headed north and east back into Montana and found ourselves the Little Bighorn Battlefield. It was quite warm up here compared to what it had been like in Yellowstone and unfortunately Blake wasn't feeling great. He and Craig stuck to shady areas and the air-conditioned car whilst Kaine and I ran around answering questions in a booklet so they could get their Junior Ranger badges. Again, we didn't get to spend much time here, certainly not as long as I would have liked but we had to get moving towards our next destination for the night too.
East and South into Buffalo. We had a steakhouse right across the road so it was there for dinner and then as we were leaving we spotted a little ice cream parlor and mini golf place down the back. Weather was gorgeous so a round of golf and some ice cream was a really nice end to the day.

I couldn't get over today how much the terrain kept changing between areas. I can very easily see how people fall in love with the country-side in Wyoming. Exactly how I imagined it thanks to all those readings years ago of "My Friend Flicka" and "Thunderhead" (yes Mum I blame you!)
Very beautiful area up here.
