The Smith's USA Trip

We decided to get straight into the sight seeing today and headed for the San Diego Zoo (purchased a Go San Diego 'Card' online with tickets for the Zoo, Safari Park, Knotts Berry Farm and Legoland to save ourselves some money. Also handy because just need to open a document on my phone for tickets to all of them!)
The Zoo is bigggg. There are so many different types of animals here. Craig wasn't overly thrilled with the zoo and to be honest I think that our zoos at home have just as good enclosures and facilities, if not better.
But the boys and I had a ball. There were a few areas that were closed as they were revamping and/or adding new enclosures so it also meant that instead of being able to walk around loops there were a few times where we walked in and then had to follow the same route back out to get to the next area.
Somehow we managed to do things right for a change. The zoo is a hilly place and we managed to somehow tour it, without even realising, so that the majority of the time we were walking down hill.
The boys were also really excited to see that there was a SkyRail that took you from one side of the park to the other so we walked our way to one half, caught it back to the front for a late lunch and then caught it back up and over to walk down the hill for the last part of the zoo.
It was a pretty cool view from up there, looking across the enclosures.
Most exciting part of the day for me was when we found the gorillas and it turned out there was a baby gorilla there too, and then went on to the Orang utan enclosure to discover there was a baby one there too! At the end of the day we found the giraffes and guess what, a baby one of them too! She was in fact so young that she still had her umbilical cord visible.
A long day and we all had tired feet but definitely worth it.
