The Smith's USA Trip

We traveled from San Antonio across to Baytown for two nights. Baytown is basically an Eastern suburb of Houston.
The place we're staying at seems to have a lot of tradie type workers stay here but that hasn't worried us at all. In fact, Craig was in his element last night sitting out having a few beers with a small group of them. Nice bunch of guys who found our accents weird and asked questions about kangaroos and the direction our toilets empty.

To entertain the kids for a bit, we went to Kemah Boardwalk about a half hours drive south from Baytown. It wasn't as big as I had expected it to be but we could easily imagine how insane a place it would be in Summer. Craig and the boys rode the Ferris Wheel and we all rode the Boardwalk Tower up for a view and then toured around on their mini railway. We were disappointed that their Boardwalk Bullet wasn't operating - a big wooden rollercoaster that looked pretty impressive.
They had a heap of restaurants to choose from but we ended up eating at the Aquarium there. Meals were great and the desserts were insanely huge but oooohhhh so yummy.

Today has been a quiet day just looking around Baytown at some of the local stores. We've come to the conclusion that walking is not the done thing or at least not really encouraged. There aren't any footpaths around, you just have to kind of wander through carparks and over driveways. A little bit scary really.

We've now seen quite a few squirrels but all other interesting wildlife has been skittled on the side of the road - armadillos, skunks, deer, coyotes (we think), opossums and even a gopher or two.
Tomorrow it's a travel through day as we head for New Orleans.
