Massive day of driving today. We knew we had about 5 hours drive ahead of us to get into the Grand Canyon North Rim.
Used the Interstate as much as possible today with a quick couple of stops - one at the Jack Rabbit Ranch, an icon of Route 66 and then further along at the Meteor Crater.
The crater was very cool to see. Apparently the first proven impact site of a meteor. The guide who took us out along the rim was so knowledgable and delivered the information in a way that made it easy to understand. It was interesting to find out that it wasn't officially confirmed as an impact point until early 1960's.
From here it was a very long drive up and around the East Rim of the Grand Canyon. So close to snow near Flagstaff - thought this area was warm!?!
Passed through some Indian reservations (at least we think they were). Lots of little run down looking houses in what seems to be the middle of nowhere. What they do for a living out here, no idea!
Scenery through here is just amazing though.
On the way into the Grand Canyon Park we saw quite a few deer and little bit of snow on the ground.

The Grand Canyon
itself is spectacular. I know lots of people say it's 'just a hole in the ground', but wow.
We are really glad that we ended up staying on the North Rim and not the South as we'd originally planned. Watching the sun set over the canyon as we sat and ate dinner on the lodge deck was really beautiful. Chilly, but beautiful.
The little "log" cabin is cute and even has it's own gas fire place (yes, I did put it on because I was so damn cold after dinner - the fire was really for 'atmosphere'. Didn't do much to heat us up.
Amazing place.
