The Smith's USA Trip

It was back onto Route 66 today. We left St Louis and made our way down to Sullivan to see the Meramec Caverns. They are a massive set of caves running through the hillside there with a river flowing through, supplying fresh Spring water. The caverns are said to have been a hideout of Jesse James and his brother Frank.
Lots of stalactites and stalagmites that apparently only grow about a 1/4 of an inch every 150 years. Considering the size of some, they've been estimated at millions of years old. The tour ended with a sound and light show projected onto a stalactite curtain, but to be honest, Craig and I felt it detracted from the natural elements.

From there we found our way to Cuba and checked out the World's Largest Rocking Chair at the Fanning Outpost. The boys were mightily disappointed they couldn't climb on it and that it didn't actually rock.
Into Springfield for the night.
