Yamas!

Happy Canada Day from Rethymno, Crete!

We hit the road west to Chania this morning and made the 1 hour drive to this beautiful Venetian city. Photo #1 is our proud BMW drivers! Photo 2 is a quick Canada Day Selfie before today's adventure!

The weather has been so hot (around 40 degrees or 51 with the humidex!) which has definitely affected our ability to enjoy the sights. While strolling though the shops, we found a tribute to my wonderful nephew Magnus...but sorry kiddo! Your Auntie went to Greece and all you get is this photo of a jersey with your name on it!! (Photo #3) lol

We walked around the old city exploring the narrow streets and alleys! Photo #4. We were lured in to a cute little restaurant on the promise of air conditioning, which turned out to be a fan blowing on us! The food was delicious...but we agreed that we have never sweated so much in all our lives! (and for all my friends, you know I don't believe in sweating!!)

The drive was so pretty...at some points we felt we could be driving through a tropical rain forest and then 15 minutes later we felt as though we were driving through the mountains of BC. The trees were amazing!

We returned back to hotel for a dip in the pool, although it was not refreshing at all as the water was too warm! The men made us a beautiful Canada Day supper on our balcony...we sure could have used that Greek air conditioner though! (photos 5 -8 - Canada Day fun and supper on the balcony!)

We ended the day on the beach in front of our hotel enjoying the sunset...and toasting Canada's 150th birthday. We even sang Oh Canada, loudly! I'd like to say it sounded great, but it might have been shaky as we were all "emotional!" Pete even yelled out "True North" and everyone on the beach turned to stare! (Photos 9-11)

Photo 12 is Jim and Kelley saying "Bon Nuit" to Canada's wonderful 150th birthday celebration day in Crete!
