Yamas!

Well, last night was a huge success...and party!

We met up with the Dave Clark 4, as I'm now calling them! These are the 2 lovely couples from Nottingham, England; Dave and Neill Clark and Keith and Pauline Ayre. Photo #1 is the whole gang enjoying the evening (with Notis standing behind us)

As our starter we had Saganaki...which I thought was a weird name for a Greek dish. I then learned that Saganaki is a method of breading and frying the cheese on high heat! It was sooo delicious! We also had an order of calamari....which Kelley now says is her favourite. She had a goal of eating octopus on this trip, but this goal was not exactly achieved as we all agreed it looked too weird to eat! But she now likes squid, so we're considering this mission accomplished! (Photo 2 - still glowing as it was approx 40 degrees last evening!!)

As our main course we all ordered lamb! When it is cooked to perfection like last night, it tastes just like tender beef with tons of flavor! It wasn't long after dinner when the Greek bouzouki player arrived (much like a guitar), and then the dancing started! We all had so much fun! (photo #3...the man in the light blue shirt is Dimitris, the restaurant owner and our awesome host for the evening!)

Our new friend and maître d' "Notis", knew we were dying to smash plates in the Greek tradition, and surprised us by bringing out some plates to break in the streets of old town Rethymno! We all agreed this is a memory we will cherish forever! (photos #4, 5 and 6...dancing and plate smashing!)

Photo 7....the benefactor of the lamb fat and table scraps! I love my kitty cats!

Well, 7 hours later we made it back to the hotel! We were off to a shaky start this morning, but we have all since recovered! We agreed that our theme song for this trip is Amy Winehouse's "Rehab"....oh too much wine...and ouzo...and gin and tonics....

I'm sorry to say no photos were captured today, but I assure you, we all looked amazing. We spent a "relaxing" day and started to work on the daunting chore of packing our bags! Later this afternoon, we spent some time enjoying the Sea of Crete, where the waves were wild and literally a ton of sand went into our nether regions!

Tonight we are heading out to a Cretan restaurant that is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. We promise to behave tonight....the next 2 days will be long and ugly as tomorrow, we take an over night ferry back to Athens for our journey home...but for now, we are still enjoying our time in Crete immensely!

P & K's thought for the day...Crete has been amazing. We only scratched the surface of this beautiful island, and hope to come back some day!
