Yamas!

Although we arrived safely in Athens approximately 30 minutes late, everything went smoothly getting through customs.

We were quite shocked when we saw our Airbnb accommodation, and when the taxi driver insisted on staying with us until the host arrived, it confirmed our concerns. However, the condo itself is quite nice and has a beautiful balcony. Not only can we see the ruins of the Acropolis from our balcony, we can see the ruins of 3 derelict buildings right across the street too! We feel reassured that we're safe though, as our security guard is disguised as a homeless bum sleeping in the next doorway! We feel quite certain that he'll spring into action if need be!

In case you can't tell, we're a bit punchy as we didn't get much sleep last night. We decided to stay up today to adjust to the time change. We enjoyed our first Greek lunch at a quaint taverna and toasted the beginning of a great trip!...in fact we're now toasting on our balcony with gin and tonics. The last couple of photos are taken inside our apartment!

Facts about Athens:
- Athens is the capital and largest city in Greece and has a population of just over 3 million people.
- According to mythology, Athena and Poseidon competed for the title of the guardian of the city. They each offered a gift to gain favor of its people and the gods, but Athena’s olive tree was deemed more valuable than the salt water spring given by Poseidon, so her name
was given to the city.
