Yamas!

Hello from Dubrovnik! We were thrilled with our first view of the Adriatic Sea from our bedroom windows! (photo #1). We sent the men off first thing in the morning to hunt and gather some groceries, while Kelley and Karen started the laundry! (Hooray for a washing machine!...no dryer though!) We enjoyed our task of hanging out the laundry on the clothesline, as were other local women in our neighborhood. (photo #2) 10 hours later, and high humidity, the clothes remain hanging on the line for yet another day! We included some photos of our place, including the "Minnesota Vikings" kitchen!! (photos #3), our lunch location under the grape vines on our front patio and our back patio where we enjoyed tonight's dinner! (photos #4 and 5)

Dubrovnik is a beautiful city on the Adriatic Sea, in the region of Dalmatia. It is a popular tourist destination in the Mediterranean Sea, and has a population of 42,615. In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

When the producers of the Game of Thrones series picked Dubrovnik as the setting for the show, they could not have chosen any better. After lunch, we enjoyed touring the old city and seeing some of the scenes from the show...except for Karen, who has never watched an episode of Game of Thrones and was looking for a place that served both ice cream for the women and beer for the men, as instructed! We loved our walk through the old town, and we're drawn in by the town square and the beautiful old Catholic church. (photos# 6, 7 and 8)

We then took took the cable car to the top of the hill overlooking the old city and the harbor...check this site out for an amazing view: www.dubrovnikcablecar.com (photos # 9 and 10)

Following an epic and unsuccessful search for limes for our evening gin and tonics, we made our way home on the bus. Jim advised us to get off 1 stop too early. This led to a serendipitous discovery of 3 beautiful limes at a previously undiscovered grocery market! All was well in Croatia as we logged 89 flights of "fitbit" stairs, and earned that gin and tonic, with said precious limes!

Thoughts for the day...as requested by Laurel Pitre!

Pete says, "It was cool seeing where "Cersei" had her "walk of shame".
Jim says, "The Old Town of Dubrovnik was unbelievably beautiful and historically significant, but disappointing in how "touristy" it was.
Kelley says, "I'm ready for the "Old Lady" Olympics now. My legs are large stumps of muscle and ice cream!"
Karen says, "I felt just like Belle, from the opening scene in Beauty and the Beast, when we hung out the laundry. I wanted to sing "Bonjour" so bad...but would have had to sang out "Dobro Jutro" instead, and it lost all it's beauty!"

PS...Pete wants a last thought for today; "It's sad to think as recently as 1995, there was war here." Jim concurs.
