Yamas!

Our car was delivered to the hotel right on time this morning, and off we went...Pete at the wheel, Jim navigating, and Kelley and I squished into the backseat of the Nissan Micra! (photo # 1)

Our first stop was at the Boutari Winery, in the south part of the island. (Photo # 2) We had a lovely Somellier, Effie, lead our 12:00 tour. We were also paired up with Francesca from San Diego and her 2 daughters, Erica and Tara. (Photo # 3, Effie in the middle!) We toured the vineyard, the cellar and then had a beautiful lunch and wine samples. The tour and tastings lasted 3 hours, but it just flew by. A wonderful time was had by all!

Our reservation at the next winery wasn't until 6:00 pm, so we decided to take the opportunity to see some of the island since we had the vehicle. We found our way to the southern most tip of the island, Red Beach! All we can say is WOW! (Photo # 4) From there we headed to the south east area of the island, Perissa Beach. It was a really hot day today, so it was wonderful to sit in the sand and dip our toes into the cool waters of the Agean Sea. (Photo # 5)

We arrived at Santo Winery for our sunset wine tasting and tour. Santo Wines is a co-operative winery, where local growers bring their grape harvest for wine production (unlike Boutari, who grow all their own grapes across several locations in Greece). The best part of the day was having our wine tasting on the balcony overlooking the incredible views of the Santorini Caldera! The pictures just don't do it justice! (Photo # 6). I even ate 6 olives today, and somehow, the view distracted me and they didn't taste half bad! (photo # 7). The final photo is the incredible sunset we witnessed at the end of the evening! What a way to end a perfect day!

We all agreed it was an incredible experience, and renting the car was really worth the stress of driving in Greece! Pete and Jim did a great job too, and drank lots of water in between the wine tastings!

We made it back to Fawlty Towers at 9:30 pm, and Basil was waiting for us on the front steps! He was happy we made it back safely! I apologize for not getting a photo of him today, but will try to get one tomorrow!
