Yamas!

Happy Father's Day to our wonderful hubbys and awesome Dads to our sons! We reminisced about our own Dads this afternoon and had a toast to the 4 of them!

We were up early and boarded the 9:00 am ferry to the archaeological site of Delos, a 20 minute boat ride southwest of Mykonos. Delos is a small rocky island, and for ancient Greeks it was considered a sacred place as it was the birthplace of the Greek god, Apollo (God of light and music). Once inhabited by 30,000 citizens, it has been uninhabited for over 1700 years and became an archaeological site 150 years ago.

It was a cool day and rained on and off, which put a slight damper on our tour of the site. However, we made our way through the ruins despite the drizzle and felt the incredible history of this ancient place. Our picture line up for today is as follows:
Photo 1: Delos looking down to the sea
Photo 2: Jim and Kelley in front of the Terrace of Lions
Photo 3: The house of Dionysus (our favorite...the god of Wine)
Photo 4: The house of Cleopatra (not the Egyptian Cleopatra)
Photo 5: Cistern of the Theatre
Photo 6: Jim performing at the Theatre
Photo 7: Kelley at the house of Cleopatra
Photo 8: Temple of Isis

We got back to Mykonos town in the early afternoon, had a bite to eat and then picked up a few groceries before making our way back to the hotel. We lazed around this afternoon while it rained outside, read our books and then had a nap! Jim made us yet another yummy dinner of Greek salad and scrambled eggs in our wee little kitchenette! It's amazing what you can do with a 1 burner hotplate and a frying pan! (photo 9 and 10!)

We're hoping for better weather tomorrow and have yet to find "Petros", the famous Mykonos Pelican. He's on our "to do" list for tomorrow!

Thoughts of the day...
Peter says, "The ancient history of this part of the world and the beauty is far beyond anything I thought I'd ever experience."
Jim says, " Walking through the ruins of Delos really made me feel how ancient a place it is. I felt in touch with the antiquity of the site."
Kelley says, " Despite the rain and the wind today, I was able to touch the statues and columns. It was so ancient, but I still found it hard to picture it as it once was."
Karen says, "I am a Canada Cord Girl Guide, yet I wasn't prepared for the rain and wind. Why didn't I take my rain gear? It affected my experience."
We ate dinner inside tonight...we never thought this would occur in June in Greece. It was still an extraordinary day!
