Yamas!

We started the day with breakfast at "Mama's Place". Mama was adorable! She welcomed us by saying, "Grab a table...Don't move it...and I'll be right there!" What a fun way to start to our day in Santorini! (Photo #1)

We then proceeded to walk around Fira, the capital of Santorini. It was beautiful, but very touristy! The views were spectacular...that cannot be denied! (Photo #2 is of the men, with their idol "the donkey". Photo #3 is of the beautiful rugged coast of Santorini)

It was another very hot day, above 30 degrees, so the pool at the Babis Hotel was very appealing! We wandered back to the calling of gin and tonics poolside, and spent the afternoon lazing about. (photo # 4)

The owner of the Babis Hotel is always around, checking in with us, sitting in the front foyer watching over the front door. I asked him today what his name is...he responded, "Babis". However, in Karen style, I now call him "Basil", like the owner of "Fawlty Towers" (Jim and Pete continue to search for Manuel, for those of you who know the Fawlty Towers show!) Basil is odd and gruff, yet helpful at the same time! I asked him to help me make a phone call to confirm our catamaran trip on Tuesday, and he responded, "Yes...I dial, but you speak!". This worked out well, as I spoke to the tour company but Basil stayed near, listening and waiting to intervene at any sign of distress!

I asked Basil if he would be willing to drive us to the Boutari winery tomorrow. He responded, "No. My van may not be seen there!" However, he recommended, in his weird Basil way, that we rent a car and drive ourselves. Somehow, we were swayed by his suggestion, and now have a vehicle ordered for 11:30 am. We haven't decided if this is a good idea or not based on the way the Greek's drive. I will try and capture a photo of Basil tomorrow, and you will see what I mean!

We wanted to go to towards the right for dinner tonight, but Basil said "No!" (He was watching and counselling as we left the hotel!!) So, we went left, and found a quaint little Greek restaurant. As weird as it sounds, we're getting sick of Souvlaki, so went with our Athens tour guide suggestion of hamburger, stuffed with feta, drenched in lemon juice. It was once again, amazing!

We ended the night, sitting poolside, enjoying a glass of red wine...with Basil close by...watching our every move. We are safe at the very least!
