Yamas!

Today, we spend our last day in Mykonos Town (also called Chora) doing some wandering and exploring.

The famous whitewashed Mykonos windmills are the trademarks of the island are standing on a hill overlooking the city...you will agree there are magnificent views of the town from this peak of the island. (photos 1, 2, 3 and 4 )

The other trademark of the island is Petros the pelican, who is apparently quite the charmer and loves to pose for photographs. Unfortunately we did not find Pretros, and several locals told us that Pretros is actually a party animal, so only comes out in the late evening. We accepted the disappointing news, and kept wandering through the shops, admiring the local handmade items as as well as the tacky tourist items.

We stumbled upon the "Giorus Wood Bakery" which has been in business since 1420! It is one of the last wood bakeries in this part of Greece. The building is made of stone, hay and mud and everything was whitewashed. The bakery also acts as a recycling point, as it fuels the oven with wood no longer used on the island. We had a wonderful visit with the current family owners and bought some delicious spinach and feta pies for our afternoon snack. (photo 5)

Following a relaxing afternoon soaking up the sun on the beach, we went out for dinner and then headed back to our humble abode to catch the sunset! (photo 6) It was a beauty tonight!

When we got back to our room, we had a fun surprise. An adorable cat wandered right into our room, and had a lovely visit (there are a lot of stray cats on the islands). Following a delicious bowl of milk, Miss Kitty settled down for a few hours nap on our beach towel, before disappearing into the night. (photo 7)

We've enjoyed Mykonos a lot, but are looking forward to our next stop tomorrow in Naxos, Greece.
