We finally managed to get a decent night's sleep last night. After breakfast at the hotel we packed our bags and checked out of our hotel.
Before heading out of Austin we headed back to Tom's on South Congress so that Nadia could get her morning coffee. Then we took photos of the iconic Greetings from Austin mural which is not far from there.
From there we headed to the Pennybacker Bridge which runs over the Colorado River. It's a really lovely area with big houses and beautiful views over the river, cliffs and the city in the distance. The bridge itself is also really lovely.
We then headed in the direction of San Antonio, but we had plans for lunch on our way. We had seen a restaurant featured on TV before that Damien was especially keen to visit. It's called the Salk Lick BBQ and its in a town called Driftwood about an hour out of Austin. We had no problem getting a seat, but we're pretty certain that it would be a different story if we were getting there on a weekend. The food was amazing, we tried pulled Pork, Pork rib, Turkey and sausage and it was all delicious. Even the potato and coleslaw salads were some of the best we'd ever had. After lunch, and a photo of the smoke pit we headed in the direction of San Antonio.
We arrived at out hotel in the early afternoon and had time to do some laundry before heading out again. The San Antonio River runs right through the city and they created a River Walk along the banks. It is like a canal about a storey below street level and is a focal point for dining in the city. All sorts of restaurants line the River Walk, but you can also just spend a lot of time wondering along. The walk features lots of pretty fountains and bridges. After such a big lunch we decided to have a really light dinner. We found a table at one of the many mexican restaurants and shared a couple of appertizers (plus beer and margarita). This was exactly what we needed and was delicious. We got a little turned around when we tried to find our car, but we eventually found our way back and headed to the hotel.
