We made our first attempt at the New York subway this morning, heading to Coney Island. We got off the train a few stops early at Brighton Beach to walk along the board walk. Being a Friday it was not busy but the weather was very warm and humid. We stopped at Nathan's Famous hot dog stand to buy some lunch. There was a long wait before we were served but the hot dogs were very good. There were a lot more people around after lunch so we can imagine how busy it would get on a hot weekend.
We walked back to the train and headed to Smith Street in Brooklyn. The street is lined with cool shops, bars and cafes. We did a bit more shopping and stopped at a bar to have a drink. We really enjoyed wandering through this part of Brooklyn, it's much more quiet and laid back than Manhatten.
We took the train back to our hotel for a rest and to cool down from the heat of the day. We then decided to find some New York pizza for dinner. There are plenty of places to choose from but we found a place not far from our hotel. Most places serve by the slice and one slice of New York pizza is a meal! We then spent a little bit more time wandering around New York and stopped for an ice cream before heading back to the hotel for the night.
