This morning we took a drive to Zuma Beach in Malibu about 30 minutes from Mary's house. Like most of the beaches in LA it is lovely and clean with long stretches of sand and loud crashing waves. We arrived at the same time as many summer campers who were spending their day on the beach learning to surf or just playing in the water. We also were just in time to see the first of several pods of dolphins slowly making their way along the coast, often coming very close to the shore line. The weather was warm but the sky was still thick with morning haze.
We took a long walk along the beach path as well as closer to the water's edge and spent a lot of time speculating about how much some of the beachside homes might cost and who might live in them. We also passed a film set right on the beach but didn't get close enough to see anyone we might recognise.
We stopped for lunch at a restaurant on the beach and watched the haze clear up to reveal beautiful bright blue skies, better views of the nearby mountains and amazing shimmery water. The number of people on the beach also grew as the weather cleared.
We got back to Mary's in the early afternoon and started to think about dinner. We decided to make mini quiches and salad with different fillings that everyone could choose from. Once again they were very popular with Jude declaring them to be delicious!
