Portland day 3

This morning we all headed to the Willamet Falls about 40 minutes from our accommodation. Our first view of the falls was a little disappointing but we were able to drive to another position to get a better view. We then drove to a small wildlife preserve not far from the falls and took a short walk through the forested area. Damien and I have been constantly surprised by the number of times we have seen small patches of unique and very pretty plants and flowers during our hikes in the US and this walk was no different.

We then drove to the nearby town of Oregon City. This small town was once the first incorporated city West of the Rocky Mountains. It has now been largely subsumed by Portland and its surrounding suburbs. We wandered past the shops and found somewhere to have lunch.

We headed back to our house after lunch, but first stopped in at the nearby Nike factory outlet. Mary bought some supplies for the kids and Nadia bought a top for herself. Then we headed back to the house for a rest.

We headed to the Pearl District for dinner tonight, which a trendy and more up market area. We had a really lovely dinner of Italian food and shared a bottle of wine. We then went past Salt and Straws, an ice cream shop that collaborates with local food creators and suppliers to create some very unique flavours of ice cream. After lining up for about 10 minutes we all enjoyed our selections, then headed back to the house for our last evening in Portland.
