This morning we headed to the Boston Freedom Trail. We had started this yesterday afternoon but were interrupted by the rain. The Freedom Trail is a walking tour through the city that takes you past some of the major landmarks related to early American independence. It was a really good way to explore the city, visit different districts such as little Italy, and learn more about the events leading up to and during the American War of Independence. The walk culminated on the wharf, where Nadia had her first taste of a Boston staple for lunch, a Lobster roll.
In the afternoon we visited to the Mary Baker Eddy Library which is home to an interesting attraction called the Mapparium, a 3 storey, stained-glass dome the inside of which depicts the globe as it was in 1935. It's an impressive work of art.
After another rest in the hotel, we headed out for dinner. We didn't book anything this time but wondered down a street where we knew there were plenty of restaurants. We ended up at Eataly, a large shopping mall for all things Italian food and drink. We had some delicious pizzas and wandered around the shopping space admiring the amazing meats, cheeses and produce. We promised ourselves that tomorrow night we would have something other than Italian food for dinner.
The weather tomorrow is looking cold and rainy so we will try to find some more indoorsy things to do, but we are looking forward to exploring more of Boston.
