US Trip 2018

We spent the morning exploring Salem. We started at a little cafe for breakfast where we got delicions breakfast rolls and Nadia got a good coffee. It was still pretty early so the streets were really quiet.

Most of the attractions we wanted visit opened at `10am so we had a bit of time to wander around the Salem maritime historical displays at the site of some the original wharfs.

We then headed to the Salem Witch Museum. The museum gives a more factual historical perspective of the witchcraft trails that took place in Salem in the 1600s. The museum rekindled Nadia's interest in this period in history in the US and Europe, so she bought a book about the trials and will have to pull out some of her old books when she gets home.

We also visited the Witch House, the only remaining building in Salem that has a direct connection to the witch trials, as it was owned by one of the presiding judges. It was interesting to see the slightly different perpective that the displays in this attraction gave to this period in the town's history. It also had more general content about the way of life for people at this time in the US.

We then left Salem and drove the short distance from there into Boston. We found our hotel where Nadia checked in and we bid fairwell to our trusty rental car.

We went for a walk to Boston Common, a park right in the middle of downtown. Across the road from the park is the bar that inspired Cheers, so we had to get a photo of that. Not long after that the weather changed and it started to rain pretty heavily for a short while. We sheltered under a tree until it died down before heading back to the hotel to dry off and buy an umbrella.

We had a delicious dinner at an Italian restaurant that is one of many nearby to the hotel that we are keen to try. Then we headed for a bit of a walk through the neaby retail and dining district before heading back to the hotel for the night. We're both looking forward to exploring more of the city tomorrow.
