US Trip 2018

We headed to the town of Stowe about 30 minutes from our hotel. Stowe is a smaller town than Montpelier but it is equally pretty. There were plenty of shops and galleries to wander through featuring local artists and crafters. We found a couple of other short hikes to waterfalls just outside of town which were also really enjoyable. Damien was very excited to get some photos of a couple of chipmunks that were chasing each other through the forest. An interesting fact about Stowe is that the von Trapp family (yes, those von Trapps) settled in Stowe in the 1940s. They still run the Trapp Family Lodge and even have a brewery!

Stowe and Montpelier

We had lunch at a local pub and headed back into Montpelier to explore the town further. There were fewer shops to wander through but many more restaraunts, but we enjoyed looking at the very pretty buildings and the canal that runs through town.

We returned to the hotel for a brief rest before finding a Montpelier restaurant for dinner. We're not quite sure why but the restaurant turned out to be train themed, complete with model trains running along the top of the entry and on tracks above the bar! Nadia enjoyed her shrimp dinner, but Damien was disappointed by his steak, which is a worry since the restaurant is a steak house.

We've really enjoyed spending time in the very picturesque part of the US. We have even speculated about buying one of these pretty little houses, but only to stay in during summer, we aren't fans of the snow!

We leave this part of Vermont tomorrow and chase more waterfalls as we head in the direction Salem and Boston.
