Nashville to Cookeville

We checked out of our hotel this morning and headed back into downtown (not before sorting out coffee for Nadia). It turns out that Damien is also a li'l bit country, because he decided that he wanted to buy himself a pair of cowboy boots! Now before anybody gets too excited, they aren't the gaudy colourful ones you might imagine. They are a really nice pair of brown boots.

From there we left Nashville with plans to visit the Grand Ol' Opry, which is just outside of town. We both imagined that it would be an interesting historic building but it was nothing at all like that. We decided to give it a miss, given that we had read so much about the history of the Opry during our visits to other museums.

There was, however, and outlet mall just nearby, so we headed there to do a bit of shopping. Nadia bought herself a new pair of runners, something she had been hoping to do in the US since they cost so much less here.

After a lap of the shops, we left Nashville and headed north. Today we visited the first of what is likely to be several waterfalls! Burgess Falls is a bit over an hour away from Nashville. There was plenty of traffic given the long weekend. The waterfall itself was beautiful and it was nice to go for a walk in shady wilderness as opposed to the more urban sights we have seen so far.

We have a room for the night in the nearby town of Cookeville which is a larger town than we thought it would be. We will try to head out earlier tomorrow to visit other nearby falls and continue our drive north.
