US Trip 2018

After breakfast at the hotel, we stopped at the supermarket to stock up in a few essentials and then headed out on the road to continue our journey north.

We drove nealy 4 hours, crossing the border from Kentucky into Ohio, to visit another state forest and yet more waterfalls. We took mainly backroads today which took us through some really pretty countryside and past some lovely houses and old barns.

We visited Hocking Hills state forest. There were plenty of cars in the carpark but we managed to get a park and make our way down the first, short, hike to Cedar Falls which was very pretty, but also full of people swimming, despite signs warning against it.

From there we made our way to the falls at Old Man's Cave which was a 2 mile one way hike through the forest. The walk itself was lovely, taking us through beautiful forest and past interesing rock formtations and several smaller waterfalls. The track was also very muddy in parts and included some difficult terrain but the view of the falls at the end was worth it. We then hiked the 2 miles back to the trail head and our car. We were both exhausted and a little muddy by the end but very satisfied with our efforts for the day.

We drove another 2 or so hours north to Dover for the evening and had delicious Mexican food for dinner. It appears that we are in the heart of Amish country, which might be interesting to explore for a short time tomorrow before we head in the direction of Niagara Falls.
